Azmera Davis - Founder & Chief Executive Officer
Azmera Davis is a senior at USC double majoring in Visual and Performing Arts Critical Studies, Social Sciences with an emphasis in Psychology, and minoring in Portuguese. She is garnering her passion for the Afro-Brazilian martial art of capoeira, spoken words of poetry, and music in a visual poetry series entitled "Break The Boxes." Her pieces focus on the journey of self-discovery, and discovering the power that lies within. She has served on several Non-profit Committee’s and serves as the Youth Program Director for the International Society of Black Latinos in youth development curriculum. She is thrilled to spearhead the Break The Boxes movement and has made it her personal mission to empower people to awaken their highest calling by building their creative confidence and academic pursuits through performing arts. Shanelle Sua - Chief Financial Officer
Shanelle is an undergraduate, Class of 2016, at the University of Southern California (USC). Prior to matriculating to USC, she worked at Goldman Sachs’s Investment Management Division, in the Client Portfolio Solutions team of private equity in the Alternative Investments and Manager Selection Group (AIMS). In that role Shanelle was responsible for analyzing performance, diversification, and portfolio holdings for customized analyses for high net-worth clients and institutional investors. Shanelle became interested in social enterprise shortly after this experience, and is excited to lead Break The Boxes into the next stage of its growth.
Madeline Timmins - Chief Operations Officer
Madeline is pursuing a degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering with a minor in Enterprise Resource Planning at the University of Southern California. As a Levan Institute Scholar, Madeline has pursued her keen interest in human rights and social justice issues through various workshops and initiatives on the University of Southern California campus. Most recently, she was selected as a Women in Science in Engineering Fellow at the Los Angeles County Medical Center for her research in healthcare management technology to improve quality, efficiency, and equity of services in traditionally underserved populations. Madeline’s multidisciplinary perspective and passion for social enterprise have prepared her for her role in Break The Boxes. She is thrilled and honored to be among such passionate individuals on the management team, and is excited to witness the empowerment, creativity, and liberation that Break The Boxes will bring to the community.
Alexandra Baker - Chief Research Officer
Alexandra Baker is a senior at USC majoring in Psychology. She merges her passion for environmental health and people with disabilities in her research work on youth and education. She is a published researcher with the International Review Board and is excited to serve as a board member for Break The Boxes, assisting with logistics for production days, and providing insight on overall artistic vision. She sees Break The Boxes impacting lives of many youth and inspiring them to attain an education when they didn’t think it possible.
Demontae Thompson - Chief Brand Officer
Demontae is a graduate student as USC pursuing his Master's of Education in Postsecondary Administration and Student Affairs. As a Compton native and former foster youth, Demontae is passionate about providing resources for underserved communities. His ambition is to become a president of a university in Southern California, while advocating for foster youth nationally. He believes in what Thee Harvest stands for: creativity, respect, consciousness, and education. He sees Break The Boxes as becoming a space for students and youth to be inspired, cultivated and free to be true to their identities.
Astria Gafford - Chief Curriculum Officer
Astria Gafford grew up in a military family traveling around the country and overseas until attending college at the University of Georgia. With a major in psychology and a minor in African American studies, Astria graduated with her Bachelor's of science degree in May 2014. She is now pursuing a Master's Degree in Social Work at the University of Southern California, and will graduate in May 2016. She is currently a social work intern within the Veterans Affairs Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System, and hopes to continue working with veterans and military families throughout her social work career. Astria believes that Break The Boxes will develop into a powerful collective that stands to positively impact people's' lives and perceptions, encouraging people to be authentic as well as motivated to become their best selves. She is excited to see Break The Boxes inspire, encourage, and support the human potential of all who encounter the movement.
Hunter Bermudez - Chief Multimedia Officer
